Company has developed implant to help treat thumb base arthritis

Founded by Gerry Clarke and Dr Brendan Boland, the company has now raised more than €22 million in grant and equity financing. Thumb base joint arthritis causes significant functional impairment of the hand. Many of those with the condition lose the ability to perform everyday tasks such as using a mobile phone or writing due to severe pain. Around 5 per cent of the US and EU population are believed to be affected by the condition, Loci Orthopaedics said.
