City offers up to 15 000 litres of free water to its residents, more than the national requirement

City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation Zahid Badroodien has called on indigent households in the city to use water cautiously.

The for the provision of free water. It has announced that it plans to put water restrictions in place for indigent users who use water excessively. Badroodien says although the recent rains have filled their dams to capacity, there are times when the city experiences no rainfall. “As we have seen with our rainfall patterns, we don’t get the same amount of water we have received in previous winters. Now what we are seeing is much shorter periods of rain with heavy rainfall patterns. The South African Weather Service, together with scientific communities, agree that we don’t know how much rain we will get in the next winter period.
