She booked her place in this evening's semi-finals of the 200-meter Individual Medley

South African swimmer Rebecca Meder was the lone shining light for Team South Africa in the morning session of Day 7 of theMeder finished fourth in her heat in 2min 11.96 seconds. This was the 16th fastest in the competition. Her compatriots in the men’s 100m butterfly, Chad le Clos and Matthew Sates failed to advance to the semi-finals.Le Clos, a four-time Olympics medallist was fifth at the halfway mark, but he clawed his way back to eventually finish second in a time of 52.

Smith and Baxter finished strongly and managed to sneak into third place with a time of six minutes, 23-point-one-one seconds behind New Zealand and Lithuania.Track and field athletics started at the Olympic Games in Paris on Friday, but the news was not encouraging from a South African point of view. Neither Tshepo Tshite nor Ryan Mphahlele managed to automatically qualify for Sunday’s 1500m semi-finals.
