The Fisher People Tribunal heard six cases which were presented to a jury of experts in the fishing sector, with women giving their testimonies and outlining the challenges they face. The Tribunal aims to document and expose the violations of fishing communities’ rights. “We want government to help us with lots of things. For instance, we need permits. And also we don’t have materials like a boat, fishing rods and lots of things that we use when we are fishing. And also the government must support us when we have floods. In 2022 we had floods. The government left us out. It didn’t do anything for the fishers. We were left out.”
