Gauteng Premier and African National Congress Provincial Chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi says the province will be taking a tough stance to ensure service delivery.
Lesufi was speaking at a media briefing at the province’s head office of Ruth First in Saxonwold following the party’s provincial lekgotla at the weekend. Among the resolutions reached was the need to rebuild party structures in Gauteng which garnered 34% of the provincial vote in the May elections.“I had to summon all the executive mayors two days ago to say this is totally unacceptable we must not behave as if we don’t know that there will be summer in December or September that we don’t know that there will be winter next year and you want to plan in the middle of those seasons when we know the challenges that will happen,” adds Lesufi.
“Indeed 37% of our water is either stolen or there are leakages that need to be sorted out that affect many communities. But we are excited now we have established a joint committee between the provincial government, Rand Water, and municipalities where all the issues can be resolved there,” explains Lesufi.
