ASA to appeal CAS decision on Semenya

race, possibly the last international 800 metre race she will be allowed to compete in.

The CAS ruling was a majority decision and the statement acknowledged that the rules were fundamentally discriminatory against the women affected by it. ASA’s final hope of overturning the decision now is to turn to the Swiss Federal Court, which has final jurisdiction over the CAS ruling. In the appeal, ASA have asked for recusal of two of the arbitrators who they feel are conflicted and also claim the conclusion cannot be justified on the strength of medical evidence and that the rules cannot be ethically implemented.
