House Democrats can’t get Mitch McConnell to hold a vote on their biggest legislative accomplishment. So they’re going to pass it all over again

House Democrats can’t get Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to hold a vote on their biggest legislative accomplishment.House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is eyeing a new strategy that would take the caucus’ signature achievement this year — a sprawling elections and government transparency bill — and break it into bite-size pieces with fresh votes on the floor, according to multiple lawmakers and aides.

The package, which passed on a party-line vote in March, is expected to be sliced into separate pieces in the coming weeks on election security, voting rights and campaign finance.Sign Up Separate votes would also help draw attention to little-noticed pieces of the initial bill, such as automatic voter registration or a crackdown on super PACs, which are priorities for the liberal grassroots and something some lawmakers say Democratic leaders have not done enough to promote.

Some vulnerable Democratic freshmen are growing anxious that after five months in the majority, the House has sent no major bills — besides must-pass spending measures — to Trump’s desk. And if McConnell’s blockade continues, as is likely, Democrats are likely to make the case to voters they need a Senate majority to get anything done.

Party line votes in the house aren't going to accomplish anything. McConnell learned from the best,Harry Reid. Reid was too sorry to pass a budget in the Senate for nearly 6 years as he considered it a waste of time. Just like the house shenanigans of today.

If the legislation hasn't passed, there is no accomplishment. At least not in the real world.

On the Senate. Remember 2018... you take this and shove it up Mitches... no nice..over this..crap.

RickiMayhall I guess that means Mitch isn't doing any work. Let's act like Republicans and cut off his salary for being a freeloader.

McConnell is an authoritarian. You can't deal with people like that

Not a fan of automatic voter registration leaves to much for illegal voting.

Has Mitch held a vote on any Democratic proposal ever?

Dems must take the Senate. VOTE!!!!!!!!!

It's ridiculous that one person has the power to hold up all these bills. If the House passes a bill shouldn't the Senate be required to vote on it? I thought that was how democracy worked.

If this highly partisan, Democrat bill can't be passed by both houses of Congress and won't be signed by the President (Spoiler: It Won't), then it is a bit of a stretch to call it an 'accomplishment'. More like an exercise in wasting time.

Legislative Accomplishments? Classifying medical marijuana with heroin for 50 years might seem like a legislative accomplishment to some.

This is an old time tested strategy. You might describe it as incrementalist legislating. When Bernie was in the House he was the amendment king and all about this approach, but it didn't start with him.
