Nyandeni left out as Ellis names Banyana World Cup squad

Ellis used the game against America to give uncapped Under 17 captain Holweni and her junior national teammate Dhlamini a taste of the senior team.The spine of the team consist of players with over 100 caps in captain Janine van Wyk , Noko Matlou , Nothando Vilakazi and vice-captain Refiloe Jane . Banyana assemble for camp next Wednesday in Johannesburg before flying out to France the next day where Ellis will have one last chance to fine-tune the squad with an international friendly against Norway in Amiens on the 2nd of June.

While a spirited second-place finish at the African Women’s Cup of Nations back in December did herald a new era for women’s football in the country, it also marked a losing spell for Banyana who last won a game six months ago when they defeated Mali in the semi-finals before losing to Nigeria in the final on penalties.
