Britney Coleman stars as the main character, Bobbie, in the North American tour of Stephen Sondheim's 1970 musical "Company."has divided both critics and audiences. Being the first example of a major musical without a plot is at least part of the reason.

In its latest incarnation, which started in the West End in 2018 before moving to Broadway and now a national tour coming to D-FW, the gender of the main character has been switched. Robert has become Bobbie. It’s her 35th birthday, and she’s the only single woman in her circle. The five couples she’s friends with want to know why.Starting with the original 1970 version, the couples have always been straight.

The fifth edition of Cara Mia’s Latinidades Festival has not only expanded to include performances by more than a dozen theater, music, dance and comedy troupes — up from just three in 2022 and 2023 — it also includes for the first time a symposium on sustaining the arts through community development. The festival opens Thursday and runs through Oct. 13.Manuel Mendoza
