Wines for the weekend: Four new Sauvignon Blancs and a couple of tasty Malbecs

This week we look to the southern hemisphere for our wines. Lidl has a new range, available now and for the next few weeks, all from south of the equator. It includes four Sauvignon Blancs and a range of different red wines.

In addition to the white wine below, they are offering tasty This Wine Plants a Tree Sauvignon , and the richer, rounder Taming the Tiger Chardonnay . From the red wines, I enjoyed two wines from Doña Paula in Argentina. As well as the Estate Malbec below, Lidl has the Doña Paula Black Edition , a blend of three grapes including Malbec. Grapes grown at higher altitudes produce wines with greater intensity of flavour and more elegance. The Estate Malbec is a good example.Lightly aromatic with clean lime zest and kiwi fruits. A good easy-drinking wine to enjoy by itself or with salads and white fish.
