Residents of Kariega in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape have been evacuated following localised flooding after torrential rains lashed the area overnight.Emergency calls are pouring in as floods hit Gqerberha and Kariega in the Eastern Cape.Several areas are being evacuated and community members are being transported to school halls and churches. Kwanobuhle is without drinking water as a water plant has been flooded.
Certain roads in Nelson Mandela Metro have been closed due to heavy rains. There are residence in Kariega and Gqeberha who have had to be evacuated due to flooding in their areas. The Department of traffic has given the following update on road closures.
