Community members of the La Lucia informal settlement in Clairwood in the south of Durban, are asking to be moved to more suitable land.About 100 shacks have been affected in this area. Ward Committee Member Manana Msimanga says they are always affected when there are heavy rains.
“All the water was coming from the gate and all the houses were flooded. There is a lot of water in the rooms, it’s Tuesday today, we are sleeping in the water. And last year in November, there was fire, we used to stay on the other side.” Another affected resident is 65-year-old Fikile Ncwane. She says she has lost everything and is asking government to help her.
“It’s too bad here, I’m sleeping in the water.
