The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety, says it will be meeting the Gauteng Liquor Board soon to discuss plans on regulating liquor outlets in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg.
“I think it is now urgent that we see them and call on them to do something about regulating liquor outlets. We know that liquor generally drives crime and it drives a whole lot of social ills that we are facing. So, I think we need to engage with the liquor board as soon as possible,” explains Masuku.
“We agreed that as a station we must identify more illegal taverns and shebeens so that we close them. We closed 22 for the first quarter, I think for now for the second quarter we closed 27. We are continuously close them as we identify them on a daily basis.”
