Lawyers for consultancy company Think Garden owner Patrick Hollingworth tell the ACT Supreme Court the Canberra Institute of Technology the cancellation of their almost $5 million contact breached that same contract.

The Canberra Institute of Technology awarded an almost $5 million contract to consultancy company Think Garden, which it later cancelled.Lawyers for leadership training company Think Garden have told the ACT Supreme Court the Canberra Institute of Technology breached its contract when it cancelled an almost $5 million contract two years ago.

But questions about whether the contract was value for money sparked an internal review and a pause in the contract, before it was eventually terminated in 2022.But lawyers for the CIT said there was no breach, and Mr Hollingworth is only entitled to what Justice David Mossop described as "small change", which is legitimate disbursements for costs.

It was also revealed that then-skills minister Chris Steel had queried the contract before it was signed, asking the CIT's board to explain what Think Garden's jargon meant. When the review began, the CIT's chief executive Leanne Cover went on paid leave, continuing to draw her salary of more than $360,000.
