KUALA LUMPUR: The nation’s digital game industry has made RM45mil in sales and export revenue with support from government funds from 2014 until this year, says Gobind Singh Deo has supported 60 projects with RM36.7mil in public funds to develop digital games for computers, consoles and mobile platforms.
Gobind elaborated that MDEC also obtained a Digital Content Fund allocation of RM163mil to support the animation industry, digital games, digital comics and creative technology content between 2014 and 2024.
Gobind who is the Damansara MP was replying to Syahredzan Johan who wanted to know the amount of funding received for each game and the sales revenue for each game involving the local digital games that was funded by MDEC from 2014 until now. On Apr 18, Gobind said Malaysia’s video gaming industry is projected to hit US$649 million in revenue in 2024 after registering significant growth in recent times.
He said the market is anticipated to show a steady compound annual growth rate of 7.55% from 2024-2027, with a projected market volume of US$807mil by 2027.
