The Director of Public Prosecutions gave the outcome of the representations made by the former Sports, Arts and Culture Minister to have his charges dropped.
Kodwa was charged with violating the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act and the Prevention of Organised Crimes Act for allegedly soliciting bribes worth R1.7 million. This was allegedly in exchange for government kickbacks from his co-accused, ex EOH Executive, Jehan Mackay. In a statement, the ANC praised Kodwa for stepping aside from his duties as a member of the party, saying his decision reflected a commitment to both the Constitution of the liberation movement and the country.
The party adds that the outcome reaffirms its own commitment to justice and the rule of law pursuant to its renewal agenda.It is likely that he will now engage the office of the Secretary-General in his political home in this regard.
