Arrested on Oct.22, James "Val" Cotter, 65, has spent the past two weeks at the Bexar County jail on evidence tampering and weapons charges related to the Simpson investigation. His combined bond is set at $1 million, which his attorney described as excessive and unconstitutional during a bond reduction hearing on Monday, Nov. 4.
Suzanne's husband Brad Simpson is also at the Bexar County Jail on similar charges with bonds set at a combined $3 million. If he manages to come up with the money needed to post bond, Cotter will have to surrender his passport and be under full GPS house arrest. His attorney called these conditions and the high bond amount stunning, something he's never seen in all his 30-plus years of practicing law for charges of this nature.
