Expired food items, counterfeit prescription medication, body lotion and other prohibited goods are pictured at a warehouse in Bluff in Durban during a police raid on 20 November 2024.KwaZulu-Natal police say they have intensified operations to detect vessels entering the country that are carrying prohibited items and products.Police discovered expired food items like canned fish and soya beans, expired alcoholic beverages and baby food stored alongside pesticides.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says since the start of the Provincial Council Against Crime initiative, whistleblowers are more willing to work with law enforcement agencies to report warehouses that are used to store expired food.We commend our men and women in blue for their meticulous work. Our priority is to ensure that South Africans ultimately are and feel safe
