A high-ranking NATO official has urged business leaders to prepare for a 'wartime scenario' amid increasing global tensions. The call came as Germany announced plans to create a list of bunkers and underground facilities for civilian shelter in the event of an attack. At an event in Brussels, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer stressed the importance of NATO members adapting their production and distribution networks to reduce vulnerability to blackmail from nations such as Russia and China.
He emphasized that ensuring the delivery of essential services and goods regardless of the situation is a key aspect of deterrence. Bauer also noted that deterrence goes beyond military capacity, involving all available resources. Germany is exploring ways to keep civilians safe through the reopening of World War Two and Cold War-era bunkers, as well as repurposing underground car parks and metro stations as shelters
