Maimane says the party will continue to fight against the bloated government cabinet. There are currently 32 ministers and 43 deputy ministers appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa after the 29 May elections.“We are the only party today, fighting for the reduction of cabinet. I think we don’t need deputy ministers and in fact if you had to streamline it further, it is not rationalising of ministries only. It is ensuring that your budget is aligned to the staff you get,” he says.
