Photo: Drew Angerer/Getty Images As of two years ago, the Trump administration was officially very concerned about the anti-competitive effects of telecommunications mergers, with the president repeatedly instructing his appointees to fight the merger of AT&T and Time Warner.

I was a skeptic of the AT&T/Time Warner deal, and I think the case against this one is even clearer and stronger. There was a plausible but complex argument that the vertical integration of AT&T with a content company like Time Warner would create unfair competitive advantages.

Several state attorneys general are not waiting for the DOJ to decide; they are suing to block the merger on antitrust grounds.

jbarro questions in response to your article: wasn’t t-mobile paid a large sum for the failed att deal? wouldn’t waiting for 5g before a merger approval give att and verizon an unfair advantage?
