Bookings at Scott’s Family Resort, called Steiner’s in the show, are up this year compared with last year, according to Patty Holdrege, whose family has served New York State vacationers since 1869. She declined to be more specific. “People are calling with interest every day,” she said in an interview. “We are just trying to hang on here and keep things going.”
The Scott family has"downsized" its operations in recent years, and its sixth-generation owners have done their best to change with the times, although it hasn't been easy.which chronicles the struggles of stand-up comedian Miriam “Midge” Maisel in the late 1950s, came to Scott’s because it is one of the last remaining resorts left in the Catskills.
After the passage of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination in public accommodations, Jewish customers quit coming to the Catskills because they were no longer excluded from other vacation destinations. By 1990, the vast majority of the region's hotels were out of business.Maisel’s production team renovated Scott's, which is located in the foothills of Broome County, technically outside the area known as the Borscht Belt.
