The Dáil has been told the Government will secure prosecutions where it can after last night's RTÉ Investigates programme on the greyhound industry

The programme raised animal welfare issues relating to the overbreeding and subsequent treatment of greyhounds.

The Tánaiste said if there are Irish greyhounds being sent to the UK to be exported to other parts of the world the Government will "shut that off." The Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee has also said it will consider inviting members of the Irish Greyhound Board before it in autumn. This morning the chief executive of the IGB said that anyone who watched the programme last night would be horrified at the barbaric acts towards defenseless dogs shown on the programme.

Over to you Shane Ross FineGael

Coveney said the same about the Horse meat scandal, but did absolutely nothing - as usual.

Holy..dogs..thousands being taken of sick certs by welfare as doctors are not signing them as requested by welfare people will have to go on disability which will take up to six months and forms are so complicated you need a Barrister to fill them out..report on that RTE

Anybody for a greyhound burger ? 😂

How about cut the funding

Maybe its natural selection as its only the dogs which cannot run that are caught by the knackers!

The New South Wales government tried to ban greyhound racing a few years ago but, unfortunately, the greyhound lobby was too strong and the government withdrew the legislation. Greyhound racing is a disgustingly callous form of so-called entertainment.

You better stamp this barbaric cruelty out or your gone

simoncoveney BAN THE DAM THING its cruel and shines a bad light on Ireland poor defenceless animals

Why does it take a TV documentary expose to make politicians wake up and do something? It’s not like they didn’t know this. Animal charities and welfare advocates have been saying this for years. Always the way. Politicians on the bandwagon. Be ‘seen’ to be doing ‘something’

Excellent work by rte, however cant help think this story is nothing more than a 'look over here' piece to deflect from the many debacles of LeotheLiar and his sham of a government.

Government are caught napping once again. Because for fear of upsetting high profile people The Church been one of them.

Reactive politicians as usual..

Are we really going to trust the direct provision party to actually do anything here?

Ban greyhound racing completely. There’s no other way to stop this horrific abuse of these poor creatures.

Is this the same Tánaiste who defends fox hunting with packs of hounds?

So are they going to end the funding of this cruel industry ?

Irish Greyhound Board 'strongly condemns actions of minority in industry'Minister of State Andrew Doyle said that he had “deep concerns” about the industry, and that all allegations will be examined. We all know it’s not acts of minority..... I suspect ' strongly condemning' the knuckle dragging gombeens we witnessed last night will have any influence on their barbaric practices.
