Bank of America , the second-biggest U.S. bank, will stop lending to companies that run private prisons and detention centers.

A detention center for migrants in Homestead, Fla. Public outcry over centers like this helped drive Bank of America to announce it will stop lending to the industry.

The move followed a review by the bank’s environmental, social and governance, or ESG, committee, which included site visits and consultation with clients, civil rights leaders, criminal justice experts and academics. The Charlotte, N.C., lender also met with its Latino and black leaders. Steve Owen, a CoreCivic spokesman, said Bank of America misrepresented the company and based its decision on politics.

It would be nice to have a list of what major banks are funding summmarized in an article by a trustworthy source like LA Times

Well done, BofA

That won't help. We need to change the laws if we want to reduce incarceration rates.

B of A sucks...

When will Bank of America stop their account maintenance fees on the poor?

First they checked to make sure they didn’t already have any, then make a publicity statement that means nothing to them.

Wow! A US bank doing the right thing. Is it the end of the world already!?!?

they should not have being doing it the first place. Greed

Wow ! Good for them! This is in line with their lending policy not to lend to everyone!

If profit depends on how many you stuff into a tent, cell, or cage, you might overlook a lack of morality in those you pay a wage. If there are issues for immigrants these places keep in detention, Do the prisons deserve a look too?.. something I just thought to mention.

BankofAmerica is the worst bank ever. Too bad there wasn't a lawyer who had a set to take them on. I had a slam dunk case against them. Lawyers told me that. But you can't fight those with all the power. They have no right to decide who to lend to based on feelings.

That makes sense. Shift the burden to the taxpayers; the prisons will cost the same but they’ll be run less efficiently and the profit that the company previously made will be replaced with waste. Adam Smith: Undefeated since 1776

Yeah start lending to the cannabis industry instead.

Wow

THIS IS AMERICA GIVE THEM THE MONEY THEY NEED TO KEEP US GOOD AND SAFE

That's pretty impressive.

Now I can pay off my credit debt.

California would be a better state if Bank of America would leave and go somewhere else. Were all sick of them.

Pure publicity stunt. If they really wanted to make a stand they would stop doing business with the government. But you know they aren’t giving up those billions in deposits.

They still want me to pay my credit card with my racist money however.

Thank goodness!! Maybe they learned a lesson from Vietnam.

Finally they stepping up.

My bank. Thank you very much.

I will accept decency from anywhere at this point. It may very well be that we must look to the corporations to provide leadership in this country. Cause it ain't coming from Washington.

Do Saudi Arabia next!

They don't leave the inmates to go out in the evening

Hey Wayfair this is how it should be handle

El Segundo. Why
