The girl allegedly informed her mother through a letter, stating that it was not the first time the stepfather had raped her.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter at Ga-Dikgale outside Polokwane in Limpopo. According to the girl’s family, the incident happened on Monday last week, while her mother was at work. The girl allegedly informed her mother through a letter, stating that it was not the first time the stepfather had raped her.
A family member, whose name cannot be revealed to protect the child’s identity, says they are devastated. “The incident happened on Monday. Her mother was at work. The stepfather no longer lives with them, but knows that the children are usually alone after school. He has keys to the gate and let himself in and the child wrote a letter to her mother on Tuesday. This has devastated us as a family. But we are grateful that she is still alive. Children, who are violated by people known to them, are usually killed. However, the child often has nightmares,” explains the family member.
