"It's really like working at a completely different company," one source said, who recently moved from one of Google's Silicon Valley campuses to the San Jose offices. There's no more free lunch at Google — at least if you're among some of the unlucky engineers who belong to the company's vast workforce of contractors and vendors.

The spokesperson did confirm that there were free snacks and beverages in the San Jose office, along with microwave rooms and personal fridges, comparable to that of most corporate settings across the country.
