The government could terminate the Northern rail franchise if performance does not improve, the transport secretary, Chris Grayling, said, after more than a year of misery for passengers.

Nationalise lines when their contracts expire. These commercial companies can’t deliver at profit & if they do, it’s at the expense of reliability & value. Not a fan of nationalising, but something needs to change.
We three trains from Northern Rail are. Late and cancelled, not going far. Overheated, filthy seated. No wonder folks take the car.
Northern is only part of a much wider systemic issue.I feel it is the DoT which is responsible for the debacle.Late dely of new trains from CAF not helping but things are getting better and what would sacking Northern achieve
I think they have turned the corner.... travelled on northernassist yesterday and this morning... both trains on time, comfortable (yesterday was a brand new train) and ticket inspection on both. One area they let themselves down on is cleanliness.
but as Grayling is in charge, they'll keep it for 10 more years
