By Anna Wilde Mathews July 17, 2019 8:00 am ET CVS Health Corp. CVS -2.00% is making an ambitious move into kidney care, launching a clinical trial for a new home-dialysis device designed by the firm of Dean Kamen, the Segway inventor.
The Department of Health and Human Services said increased use of home dialysis could reduce costs and “preserve or enhance the quality of care.” Newsletter Sign-up CVS declined to comment on financial details of its deal with Deka. Mr. Kamen said that CVS helped fund the development of the device, and Deka will be paid a licensing fee based on “how successful they are in the marketplace.” Deka will oversee the device’s manufacturing, he said.
Dialysis patients often have multiple health problems, making their care far more complex than the types of procedures traditionally offered in retail clinics.
Amazing innovation. Just hope it's not overly commercialized...
Peritoneal pilot on point 👇🏻Within 5 years CVS will be doing hemodialysis at minute clinic type settings. They are dipping a toe or rather a needle in the bloodstream. Alan Lotvin is a clever doctor/leader who knows the payor landscape and plays the long imventors game.
awesome
Nothing new, I did in home dialysis 26 years ago. Major problem if not trained properly you most likely will develop infections.
