“What it really forces you to do is make sure that nobody works more than 40 hours.” New York City business owners are struggling to keep up with the $15 minimum wage.

Many business owners said these changes were unintended consequences of the new minimum wage, which took effect at the beginning of the year.

Ohhh nooo 40 hour work week dude? Bad news

toss in rent control, m4a, student debt cancellation and no one will need to work more than 30 hrs a week, if they want a job the gov can hire them for the green new deal. good plan lets get to work before the seas consume us all

Bosses need to take a pay cut.

Ok

people died for the 8 hour workday and the 40 hour workweek

oh no not a reasonable work week

The existence of Amazon is a much bigger problem for storefront businesses than any minimum wage increase.

Good.

Things that capital thinks everybody loves: 1) for-profit health insurance 2) working more than 40 hours a week

Why are you framing working fewer hours for the same pay as a bad thing?

That's bull because their business will slack off, production will slow down, quality of products will cease all because making others do the job of 6 people..

Awww🙄

If you cant afford to pay the help dont own a business .

Some restaurants are doing just fine b/c they planned ahead. If you can't pay a living wage 40 hr/wk then get out of business & leave it to those who can.

Well duh. Everyone knew this was going to happen. Dumbasses

EdAsante77 I ... don't see the problem here

Increases in cost such as this always drive some folks out of business and I image there is lots of that occurring in NYC right now

The inefficient businesses* You can't pay a living wage, you're not good enough for the economy.

😱😱😱

For your education..👈

Wait, you mean to control costs, businesses just reduce hours to compensate for the higher rate?! No way.

Nobody should have to work more than 40 hours

What pay raise do the existing employees get if they were already making $15. Or do they just stay at $15. Doesn't sound fair.

RyanGirdusky Here's a better idea. Lower the friggin cost of living so nobody has to make $8,000 dollars a month to be able to afford living in NYC. How's that? That goes double for California.

RyanGirdusky I feel that $15 per hour wage is not realistic for EVERY job. Should not be implemented that way. But for Apple,Amazon,Walmart, Home Depot, etc? No brainer. YES. They can afford it. A local mom and pop burger joint, or bookstore? Maybe not a great idea.

GOOD JOB MORANS!

I imagine it would be a struggle. Do they know why they are raising it?

Corporations and chains get subsidies, tax breaks, and incentives to move in. Small businesses don't.

Bernie can attest to that statement.

No kidding ? Wow. Who woulda thought.

So in other words, the overtime rate was the real wage they should have been paying.

min wage is yet another destructive leftist scam that harms those it pretends to help while destroying small biz.

The media doesn’t seem to have gotten around to exploring the fact that conservatives and the business lobby have prophesized the same doom every time there’s been a min wage increase for literally almost a century and been wrong every time...

Very surprising that the pro-corporate WSJ doesn't like the minimum wage.

Bulls***. Lying bulls***. As somebody who works for people like this I can tell you conclusively that they essentially prohibit anyone from going over 40 (although many make you do it by working unpaid during breaks) no matter what the minimum wage is.

good? we're not supposed to work more than 40 hours you dipshits.

NYC has a mad mayor!

Ummm NO ...they just put them on salary and call them exempt.

Hemp Becomes Booming Crop for New York FarmersA bill approved by the New York state legislature would let people commercially grow hemp for cannabidiol, and allow for the sale of CBD-infused beverages that are made in New York, opening a potentially huge market for the state’s growers. It's the snake oil syndrome. There's alot of garbage cbd out there.
