The outgoing Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community – president Hage Geingob of Namibia – has announced that Kiswahili will be one of the official languages in the SADC bloc.is attending the summit with a South African delegation.In his acceptance speech, Magufuli pledged to put industrialisation as top priority during his Chairmanship.
Magufuli had promoted the use of Kiswahili during his visits to South Africa, Namibia, Malawi and Zimbabwe. He also called on SADC member states to unite and push for the lifting of sanctions on Zimbabwe that were imposed by the West. The theme of the two-day summit is titled “A Conducive Environment for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development, Increased Intra-trade and Job Creation”.
