actions that state prosecutors said helped fuel the state's opioid epidemic andled to more than 6,000 deaths over nearly two decades.
J&J denied any wrongdoing, and its attorney, John Sparks, said state prosecutors had misinterpreted the public nuisance law, having previously limited it to disputes involving property or public spaces. The case was seen as a litmus test for nearly 2,000 pending opioid cases before a federal judge in Ohio, especially as other pharmaceutical companies faced with similar accusations have chosen to settle.Purdue Pharma, the privately held maker of OxyContin that has faced the brunt of the blame for the nationwide opioid epidemic, reached a $270 million settlement with the Oklahoma attorney general’s office in March.
State needs 2 realize itsdrug dealers dealing heroin & fentynol, adding fntynl to pn pills & heroin. All U have 2 do is go online&buy a press machine. That is why people are dying. It's not chronic pain pats or cancer pateints that are abusing meds. We follow Dr orders. UA taken
Then..........maybe sue the manufacturer of assault weapons too!
Val_Mov Holy shit
That's one lunch for these assholes
Drug companies don't addict you to drugs. They don't write the prescriptions. The doctor writing the prescription doesn't control the person who takes more than prescribed. There comes a point when you have to be responsible for your actions. it's not always somebody else's fault.
prison. prison. or hanging. hanging would be fine.
Oxycottin has been abuse retardant since 2008 with their blue candy shell on the 80s equivalent to about a gram of tan heroine if I recall correctly. robportman what do you suppose Ohio judges will rule cause that is going to open a big door for bad drug lawsuits pertaining to
Sounds like a big settlement when you put all the zeroes in there. Not nearly so big when you look at this amount compared to the profit made by purposely addicting the American public. Jail time is needed!
If I was CEO of J&J I would just jack up the price of all drugs they make to cover the costs. Any business would be doing it. Do we blame car companies or alcohol manufacturing companies for drunk drivers.
👆While the corporate execs count their tax cuts.
I LOVE the fact that DR.S RUAN and Couch r n PRISON!! NOT that they. Well u know!!
I’ll bet you they appeal. Some lawyers will make a shit ton of cash and the fine will be settled for less than a third of this amount.
Oh THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED.!!! I have been TWEETING 4 a while. Sorry!!!💯💎🎵🎶🐾🐾🌈🇺🇸😎
Hee Hee! That stuff Almost killed a person I loved. Her DR.S were COUCH and XIULU RUAN. THEY R N PRISON 4 TWENTY YEARS.!!! I LOVE IT!! THEY LITERALLY KILLED 4 PEOPLE . Voluntary Manslaughter!!! Justice wins!!!. I said HEE HEE because the person got what they deserved. 💯✌🌈😎🌊
One look and you can tell this judge is a gay liberal
Wrist slap!
Sanctuary cities should be sued for every crime committed by illegal immigrants in their city.
When are people going to start suing the gun manufacturers Let's go! bankruptthem
Folks. Think about it. Why didn't Obama go after these companies? Why doesn't Trump go after the companies that hired the illegals? They use their money and need their money. Back a candidate, Left or Right who does NOT take corporate donations!
The judge probably can't even count 572 million. That's what happens when you try to add to an idiot's vocabulary.
the doctors need to pay
Should have been more.
The opium doesn't burn the babies eyes though.
The doctors dispensing them should be paying too.
After tainted baby powder (for decades) they tried to kill off the folks that survived by addicting the to opioids. But corps don't need regulations. Nope. They'll just be nice and do the right thin… oh, bite me. The CEOs will get their millions.
That is peanuts to them. They hire illegals and nobody jails them. The government including Trump and Obama all leave these companies alone. They need their money. Its obvious. Americans are being fooled.
Judge is from ou. The university did this to pay for their construction in OKC. They are unethical big business healthcare in Oklahoma City. Hole lot is being kept from the public in this case. Local media hasn't said much I'm sure they have a gag order. It wasn't for the people.
Which at $80 Billion in profits last year: 0.00715 for all the people they killed. But they only killed 1%. Now let's look at Purdue, McKesson, et. al.
I now know that I am old having seen a major company come full circle and pay (literally) for the abuses and dependencies they've distributed
It’s not their fault when people come begging the drs for more or they complain loudly!!!!People are a big fault! Like the high these drugs give them when they are abused
What a joke. Who gets this money? Why blame the company and not the idiots who guzzle the pills? What a freaking joke.
That's less then 1% of their 2018 reported revenue. This doesn't move the needle.
What about every other state?
That judgement was smaller than expected so J&J's stock was up in after hours trading. Their net worth is 360 Billion so this is really a drop in the bucket for them. When are we going to really make these companies really pay?
Yessss👏👏👏👏
How is that supposed to help addiction? Those people will still need to take responsibility for their psychological health.
What will they actually pay? Bet it’s nowhere what the headline says.
That's a lot of money but, pales in comparison to the money they have already made.
And then they can pay me after rejecting my product idea only to begin production a few years later!!! A few mill at least
Good
jolingkent And it's still not enough.
Is it just me or does this judge look like Kevin Spacey?
Now, GO AFTER the DOCTORS, who KEEP PRESCRIBING “opioids” TO THE PATIENTS that THEY KNOW DON’T NEED THEM AT ALL or DON’T NEED THEM, ANYMORE!...and YES, these doctors DO KNOW which patients(of theirs) HAVE AN opioid addiction PROBLEM! JohnsonandJohnson
And with the politicians in their pocket it’ll be reduced to about $3.50.
CarpeNoctom Slap on the wrist.
The SC will overturn this next summer.
And still the haterz of the job creatorz are not satisfied
The suit was for like $17 billion. It's always nice to be reminded of how corrupt the corporate system is 🙌🏻
maddow Federal judge rules Johnson & Johnson must pay $600 million for its role in the Opioid Crisis. That's funny. Trump just claimed their controversial new stimulant would cure Veterans' suicides.
maddow Appeals to follow with a substantial reduction, if not complete elimination, of the award! A step in the right direction, however!
maddow Personal responsibility
maddow When you made billions upon billions, this is a joke
What was it trump ( realDonaldTrump ) said last week about purchasing stimulants from Johnson & Johnson for veterans? Please someone, remind me.
maddow For those of you asking, “What about the crack”? J&J was legally producing and selling opiates. You can’t get crack in the hospital or an MD office. J&J was responsible for distribution of a legal substance prescribed for fail. Then it became illegal in the wrong hands.
maddow Stares in West Virginia
SandraJ71137566 That's nothing against the 17 billion the Attorney General was seeking 😑
That’s 28.6 times more than the G7 summit nations want to give to the Amazon fires and J&J is just one single company lol
Put them in jail
MsTaraDowdell Great Verdict!!! This will end up in front of the Supreme Court and then we will see if Mitch and Donald’s plans work.
CarpeNoctom Good. Now get em again for putting asbestos in baby powder
Drop in the bucket for J&J. Unless it's in the billions they will take it as an acceptable loss for what they gained and will continue to do what the are doing.
tj_mayes_
CarpeNoctom stock is up %5 after hours. seems normal
Personal responsibility no longer matters for those who always seek a scapegoat.
Only in America can your company be found liable for a public health catastrophe and its stock price goes up.
Now do guns
