LONDON - British finance minister Sajid Javid said on Sunday Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not ask for a Brexit delay at an EU summit next month, but will instead press to secure a deal to smooth Britain’s departure from the bloc. “First of all, the prime minister will go to the council meeting on the 17th and 18th , he’ll be trying to strike a deal. He absolutely will not be asking for an extension in that meeting,” Javid told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show.

He said the bill to force the government to ask for an extension to Brexit talks only has Oct. 19 as a deadline for parliament to either back a deal or leaving without an agreement, and that that was the date the government was watching. “The bill talks about the 19th being an important date and at that point we will consider our options but our policy is clear. It is unchanged, we will be leaving on Oct. 31,” he said. “We will obey all laws because all governments should obey laws absolutely, but you will have to wait and see what happens then.”

That'll be a first. We know he's made no effort so far, unless you count stamping his feet and repeating demands for something we already know won't be accepted. No backstop=no deal.

Boris can't negotiate a deal with his own government. How is he supposed to make one with the EU?

PM Johnson will go to EU to seek a deal, not a Brexit delay: finance minister. A tall order for a man who couldn't organize a 'Piss - Up' in a brewery'!

De evil meets RealMattLucas

Bloody deal here and there, sounds more like Trump every day!

WHY is UK so intent on committing SUICIDE? Putin is laughing his behind off at the insanity he has triggered.

They gave a deal that did everything except allowing dark money to stay hidden, there is no other deal.

So he's got no idea of a deal that EU/MPs will like (including workable replacement for backstop), but sort it out at Summit? My kids have learned a few lessons that Boris doesn't seem to have: 1. Don't leave homework until last minute 2. If you lie/cheat, people don't trust you

This is my daughter. She has holes in both kidneys. I am a very poor man. It costs Rs 5 lakh. I have no money. Thank you for your help with this baby. Thank you.

That's not how laws work.

He’s gonna violate the law?

LOL - too little too late Boris - you have been comprehensively outsmarted.

Pick a winner

Brussels can clearly see bercow & Parliament thwarting every effort of the Johnson government to seek a better deal, why on Earth should they budge from their position when they have agents working from within to sabotage a workable exit from the EU - call a new election NOW!

1300KWL He will deliver Mays surrender treaty or an extension.

Go to the pick and mix counter it’s the quickest deal only three years in the queue🤪

what does yul Brynner have to do with anything

The EU position: There is a deal in place but you have rejected it. No negotiations during this extension period. We await your promised solution to the back stop issue. The Council meeting is not about a new deal . Barnier is our negotiator. You don't have a plan do you?

Even if the EU were open to that, when and how is that 'deal' going to pass HoC? I seriously doubt the EU will reopen any negotiation anyway, but they certainly won't for yet another 'something' that dePiffle won't even tell his cabinet about, let alone Parliament/country!

This Taklu is a Kapo.

Oppos :))

1300KWL Semantics.

He should be encouraged to do so rather than be undermined and obstructed by many hypocrites who really want no Brexit at all !

Impossible. The only party that can legally negotiate on behalf of the EU is Barnier. BoJo still does not get it, there is no way he can negotiate directly with the European council or EU countries. Even if the council were to agree, it would not be legal.

Jolly good old chap hope it goes swimmingly , hold the line , shoulders to the wheel and all the other claptrap that comes outta him. What an idiot

Good for him and if no 'acceptable' deal WTO.

When?!? Why is he bumbling around annoying decent folk in their own towns trying to campaign when he should be in Brussels conducting as many meetings as he can and getting the deal to stop us crashing out kamikaze style Do your job, Boris NoToNoDeal

He can't get a deal without accepting the Irish Backstop. The onus was on the UK Prime Minister to come up with a workable solution. Something he hasn't done because he doesn't have one.

A Backstop alternative evolved?! If not forget it. I am worried for my dear UK

Good luck

What kind of deal? Does he even know how to do that?

Good. Deal is on the table.
