launch, we spoke with Sam about why she got her start in tech, how Atlanta’s tech scene is on the rise, and her passion for helping minority and female founders with The Ambition Fund. From Oncology Registered Nurse to the Director of Partnerships at venture capital incubator, TechSquare Labs, how’d you transition into tech?My first exposure to tech startups was about eight years ago because my now fiancé, Paul was building his third cybersecurity company, Pindrop.
I then transitioned into being a startup advisor and investor in 2014 when we started TechSquare Labs, as a startup coworking space and ecosystem in Atlanta for early-stage entrepreneurs. At TechSquare Labs, we invest in and help build early-stage technology startups including everything from e-commerce to marketing to cybersecurity to blockchain.
I am very much driven and inspired by the TechSquare Labs mission of “Build Something from Nothing,” founders who have a dream and vision for building a company from scratch. Many of the founders that we work with embody this mantra and I feel that if an entrepreneur has someone that believes in them, mentors them, and provides them access to capital and networks that they can thrive. Everyone deserves a chance.
Oftentimes, these demographics do not have access to friends and family round investments or financial institutions that are critical to taking their business to the next level, and I want to change that. What’s unique about the Atlanta tech scene? How do you see tech entrepreneurship expanding there? Atlanta has had a long and yet quiet history of building very successful technology companies here.
Love her and her work!
