Vermont's maple syrup industry is making a comeback. Climate change could put that at risk

, with the smaller window lowering the probability that ideal sap flow days will occur.

Inconsistent weather cycles have interrupted that cycle, something that Burr Morse, a 7th generation sugar maker at Morse Farm in Montpelier, says has made an impact. "Throughout the whole region, from Minnesota to Nova Scotia, all syrup made after that [temperature spike] was off taste and not suitable for table grade," says David Marvin, owner of Butternut Mountain Farm in Morrisville, which has been in operation since 1972. "It took us 6 years to sell that product... It was very, very problematic because those industrial syrups are not as valuable as syrup made for the table.

Vermont's sugar makers are attuned to the changing landscape of their industry. Sugar makers take deliberate steps to protect their forests, not just for the syrup or timber, but because healthy maples contribute to capturing and sequestering carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Maybe have to plant 1000's more trees to assist in carbon capture, compost more, get one of those new carbon capture plants nearby. I'm still looking for a place I can fill up maple syrup instead of buying a new bottle over and over

I happen to know everything there is to know about maple syrup, I love maple syrup.

Climate Change. Really. The climate is changing everyday. It's not all Man's fault. Has our planet slowed down,My theory The SUN has become hotter and bigger, causing more heat to hit the planet, our axis may have tilted a little. Scientists are refusing to answer those questions

The climate has always been a variable. They need to adapt, as everyone else has done for millennia.

I only buy Florida maple syrup. Holding out until the next ice age.

SLOW NEWS MORNING, HUH?

cnbc, how dare you..

It's a Canadian conspiracy....they want all rights in Quebec to have the monopoly on syrup; not climate change.

lol. 👌

Im just gonna start selling insurance products against climate change. Ill collect the premiums from brain dead morons who think maple syrup is going extinct and never pay because its all fictitious bs.
