HO CHI MINH CITY/HANOI - A new front has opened in the U.S.-China trade war as companies shifting manufacturing to Vietnam engage in a fierce battle for skilled labor, aggravating an existing shortage and prompting calls for education reforms to address the problem.

Hanoi’s trade deals, including its recently signed FTA with the European Union, have also become a draw. The lack of capacity should come as no surprise: Vietnam’s population is just 7% that of China’s, the country still lacks investment in infrastructure, and according to the World Bank needs to spend an average of $6.7 billion a year to expand its annual power generation capacity by 10% between 2016 and 2030.

“I know that when companies are considering where to locate their facilities, they do review what other manufacturers are in the area and the associated risk of poaching.”

Reforms are truly needed

Someone should tell the so-called politburo that the world has since moved to the next level including China from whom they learnt the moribund ideology..

The problem with Vietnam is their hyper-fixation on the obsolete communist ideology. Ho Chi Minh was a man of great and vast knowledge, speaking various languages but very central to his ideology is to make Vietnamese people 'ignorant and naive'. .and this is working till date.

You underestimate, the Viet as well as India or China,,, Poverty. can be an incubator of Capitalism.

Go from a third world country, disarming thousands upon thousands of mine and ordindiance , Not BAD

US-China trade war could cause long-term damage to farmers, top consulting firm says'The growing risk is that much of the market share abroad that U.S. agribusiness is losing to foreign competitors will be hard, if not impossible, to win back -- even if current trade conflicts are resolved to the U.S. government's satisfaction.'
