Mark Cuban says most meetings are 'nonsense' and prefers email for a reason that plenty of studies support (via LaddersHQ)

In 2016, Mark Cuban revealed that he doesn't want to go to meetings. This year, he said he'd only be seen in one if money was involved.Cuban said he prefers everything to be done over email, so he can always have a record.Mark Cuban is known for a lot of things. He's the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, the star of "Shark Tank," and loves the public light through appearances or his lively presence on Twitter.

"I hate meetings — nobody likes meeting expect the people who bring the donuts and the people who like to talk about their kids because when you sit in a meeting, you waste half the meeting," Cuban said. "'So how was your weekend? How's your day? Why didn't they get the right kind of donuts? I'm tired of donuts — we should've got cupcakes.' All this nonsense that has nothing to do with getting the job done."What's the alternative to meetings? Cuban said he prefers everything by email because not only does it save time, but it also allows him to have documented evidence for future use.

"I have so many different investments, so many different businesses I'm involved with — I want to do everything via email because that allows me to go back and look something up," said Cuban."If you told me, 'Blah, blah, blah your kids,' and I said, 'Oh, that's sweet,' and then we talked about business, I can go back and search [for] it five years, 10 years, 20 years. I've got emails that are 25 years old now.

Studies seem to be in Cuban's corner. Research by Accountemps found that 63% of office workers felt theirand could've been handled over email. More than half admitted to being distracted by their phone or emails during mandatory meetings and 49% said that when there's an agenda on schedule, the meeting rarely sticks to the script.from Harvard Business School and Boston University. Sixty-five percent said it inhibited them from completing their work.

LaddersHQ Agree. For my job we use slack and email to communicate and meetings only happen when brainstorming is needed. How does that impact me? Less meetings = more time to get shit done!

dyjh LaddersHQ Mark C must be investing in some email services, surely. while every other organisation going zero emails

LaddersHQ 🗣🗣

LaddersHQ This is probably my biggest pet peeve as a Project Manager. If you’re going to have a meeting, do the prep work in advance. Don’t simply read a status report, etc.
