Chief executives are taking vocal stands on issues like gun control, climate change and immigration, but global affairs bring a different complexity and calculation, especially for companies doing business in China

.

In the aftermath of Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s now-deleted tweet, the National Basketball Association has found the consequences of even implicitly criticizing Chinese policy can be swift and sizable.

FromaHKPeople1 Paul Argenti - sound like threats than advice against CEO dare speak out on social responsibility issues. (In accounting standard). Who engaged him - CEOs under fire or China.

money first, 🇺🇸❤️RMB

I find this very ironic and disturbing: an American saying Americans should bow to a totalitarian regime and self-censor especially in matters concerning the country’s core values. This is how a totalitarian regime exports its influence, and there are some willing customers.

Is this guy doing any consulting work for China? Maybe he’s about to?

he is right !

“Corporate leaders should speak on issues that matter to their companies, like climate change for an oil company or pesticides for an agriculture business. Other than that, they should stand down.” No. CEOs and executives are also human beings who should do the right thing.

Are we living in George Orwell’s “1984”?

paulargenti something is more important than money.

The sheeple talk smack but they keep voting yes with dollar bills. Stop consuming what you don’t believe in...you are the bottom line.

Did a just witness a n offices agreement between capitalism and communism? Who’s the boss there? 🧐

Of COURSE a corporate communication expert's going to say that. Why don't you ask an ethics expert? Or a refugee from the country in question - say, Hong Kong?

I know of someone who should better stand out since he doesnt seem to be helping anyone.

That’s the corporate led attitude that has got this country in the mess we are in. That is insane. An opinion on right and wrong is not always business related. This seems to be a push for more censorship which as an American you don’t have the right.

Which is why we need to tax them and regulate the hell out of them.

Including treason and cooperation with enemy regimes. Corporate America has sunk to new lows.

There is another side of the story: Customers have no duties to help your companies to kiss ass. They will rethink when they see the figures at their revenue! FightForFreedom BoycottBlizzard BoycottChina antitotalitarianism

NBA supports Free HK and Free Catalonia from Spain, next will be Free California Texas Scotland N Ireland Quebec? Human rights and Liberty have been weaponized to initiate war. Be Cautious IraqSyria Middle East China

So then most international companies would need two sets of company values, one for democracies and one for the rest? Or should the CEO also not comment on them? . (Yes I know that doesn’t work…)

Coward

Absolutely so.

bs

Just like Krupp, Siemens, Mercedes, etc. working to support the Holocaust.

Get woke, go broke.

today, china censorship is about HongKongProtests tomorrow, china censorship can be anything!! how much freedom, liberty and autonomy the west are willing to give up? One you give advantage to totalitarian, they will ask for more, hope they realize it. StandWithHongKong

Does he seriously mean it, admitting CSR or values of companies are all jokes?

That's hitman level of morals. Speaks a bunch about the man.

I disagree with this quote by paulargenti and applaud CEOs who have shown real leadership & taken a stand on issues that affect all of us like equality, gunviolence and climatechange.

But they do have the power to contribute to its demise, so choosing not to do that would be ...nice?

Spoiler alert: The global economy's foundation lies on resources. Food, water, clothing, shelter, etc. If and when the planet runs out of said resources, the economies collapse, and your businesses and profits vanish in a puff of logic. All of it.

But please don't support dictatorship

But won’t that cause the company’s woke-index to drop? I’m sure that’s a KPI that Wall St. monitors.

And when they come for you- who is left to speak up🤷‍♀️

Yes! CEO's are not part of humanity, they shouldn't care about anything that is a hazard for their kids and grandkids.

Corporate Greed and Corporate Welfare (take tax cuts paid by and on the backs of the working class) and then run for the hills. Can we get a list of the Corporations getting such advise from this moron? Customers money is better spend somewhere else.

Get Woke, Go Broke dbongino

If only the NBA had taken this advice 🤔

In this day & age that's not possible. Companies are more than just dollars & cents, and that reflects in shareholder value.

Corporate sociopathy.

The CCP continues to provide money, manpower, technical support and benefits in exchange for international “reputation”, compromises its political claims and foreign policy, and promotes a totalitarian political model.

it's actually simple, what you say and do in ur own house, it's fine by the world, but jsut dont go doing the same shit in someone else's house.

1.4 billion Chinese and 6.3 billion non Chinese I don’t understand the logic

.. yes they chase $$$ and take stands on other issues.

Selling your own freedom for blood money. Is it really worth it? Hong Kong only stayed peaceful for 20years. You sure you won’t be next? StandWithHongKong

Here's an idea, stop kowtowing to totalitarian regimes google facebook nba apple. Googles work with China is particularly troublesome.

Tell me, which would you choose? Freedom of speech or RMB? StandWithHongKong followbackHongKong

U meant Corporate America now will respect their Chinese customers? Not insulting them? That’s cool! Tbh, I think most of them r I’ll-informed coz biased report by western media...like u

America should delete all business with China to fight for human being right and freedom

So They’d be With HITLER & NAZI GERMANY for money 💰 That’s what NBA SteveKerr JHarden13 KingJames Nike are saying “NAZI GERMANY IS ALL GOOD IF I SELL MORE SHOES” Difference? Mao Killed WAY MORE than Hitler!
