'While I feel good about reducing food miles and shopping local, I'm also considering breaking up with my local farmers' market.'

There are many things I love about farmers' markets. I can find unique fruit and heritage vegetables, or track down meat not commonly found in supermarkets such as mutton and game. Farmers' markets are also a great way to support small-scale producers and understand what produce is at its seasonal best.

However, while I feel good about reducing food miles and shopping local, I'm also considering breaking up with my local farmers' market. Yep, $68. The stallholder had to repeat the price three times to a prospective customer. Sure, it looked nice, but let's be honest – that's an expensive dessert, and even more expensive if you were to serve it with organic cream. I desperately wanted to tell the disbelieving shopper it would be cheaper to make it themselves, even if they used the stallholder's raspberries selling at $8 a punnet.

The farmers know there are wankers out there that pay top dollar for 'organic' foods...An Apple straight from a farmer is as organic as you can get

Must be gold apples

I've done a few double-takes at the price of many items at Farmer's markets recently, like $15 jars of jam or $12 sourdough loaves. You want to support local but it's becomimg unaffordable.

I’m also kinda half thinking with a passing thought that I maybe, sorta, dunno I might, not read the article? But hey don’t hold me to it. Might write 1000 words on my contemplation?

Make it yourself for five dollars

I am sure there is a millenial SJW that would happily hand over $68 for that pie because, well, instagram fame

Public transport to and from the Vic markets. You bloody ripper. Cheap if you need cheap, but loads of choice, and fresher than anything I ever bought home from The big two.

Some of the cheeses at Farmers Markets can be bought at Coles...actually, other stuff, too.

They can keep it. 😂

Stuart06415151 at that price....keep it

Wow that must be some pie 🥧!

... with prices like these makes one wonder... 'How many people have their finger in the farmer's Apple pie?' AusBiz
