PUTRAJAYA: Hew Kuan Yau must resign as the chief executive officer of the Malaysia-China Business Council over his role in the comic book controversy, says MCA Youth chairman Nicole Wong Siaw Ting.

The revelation that the ‘Belt and Road Initiative for Win-Winism’ comic book was passed on to China president Xi Jinping without following protocol proved that Hew had"low credibility”, she added.

"Hew needs to take full responsibility for this issue, as this has not only drawn the attention from the Home Ministry and the Education Ministry, but also created the possibility of China’s misunderstanding towards Malaysia in the aftermath. It was also reported that Dr Mahathir said the contents of the comic book were not in line with Malaysia’s official policies.

The comic book supports the Belt and Road Initiative , talking about the vision behind the initiative and its benefits as narrated by two cat characters, Aisha and Komie.
