Parliament approves SCOPA report on Eskom sabcnews

SCOPA undertook an oversight visit to Eskom’s two coal power plants Khusile and Medupi at the end of August.

The visit was to investigate allegations of corruption, mismanagement, cost escalations and the delays in the completion of the two projects. When he presented the report to the House, SCOPA Chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said the maintenance cost to address the defects at the power plants was estimated at R7 billion for Medupi and R285 million for Khusile. He says: “Vetting of all supply chain practitioners, managers and the board must be implemented immediately and for head office as well as other centres where procurement takes place.”

“The report of this must be sent to SCOPA and Parliament within 60 days from the adoption of the report by this house of the National Assembly.” “There must be compulsory declaration of interests, they must be done by all senior directors at the very least annually and declarations must be enforced immediately in instances where they have not been done,” adds Hlengwa.
