“If the federal government borrowed to pay the salaries of its civil servants, this would inevitably lead to an immediate credit rating downgrade. The minister was responding to a remark made by the Opposition Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan during the Negri Sembilan budget debate in the state assembly.He also pointed out that the government is on target to cut its fiscal deficit from 3.7 per cent of gross domestic product in 2018 to 3.4 per cent this year.
