Tourism stakeholders are looking at

“bubble tourism” to gradually restart the industry while the country continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Tourism earlier said that it is considering adopting “travel bubbles” as a way to help the tourism industry recover from the pandemic. “Eventually, if our numbers become favorable, we are also looking at international [destinations] depending on those markets that will accept our tourists going there, and if their numbers are also acceptable to the Philippine government,” Clemente said.

“For the bubble tourism, we strongly believe that it can start tourism again…At least we will start from micro and we will move to bigger areas,” Wong said. In response, DOT Assistant Secretary Myra Paz Abubakar said the agency has been busy with their virtual inspections to accredit tourism establishments.
