Bosses claim that the hospitality and tourism industry have been hardest hit by the crisis, compared to other sectors. They also argue that the impact is likely to last longer than in other sectors, due to social distancing rules, restrictions on business events and lower demand from international tourists."Sales across the sector are expected to be 56% lower than last year, reducing revenues by £73.
Trade group UK Hospitality says it is"confident" that the industry can return to full strength and still be able to operate safely and responsibly, but it will require help from the government to enable businesses to"restart and begin to recover" over the remainder of 2020 and into 2021.
"In the decade that followed the financial crisis hospitality consistently created around one in six new jobs thanks in part to the VAT cuts and investment in youth employment and training introduced in the immediate aftermath," hospitality bosses wrote. "We can do so again. Physical hospitality cannot be replicated digitally online, in the same way that some form of retail can be. We therefore urge you and your colleagues across government to work with us to stimulate demand and support the sector's recovery."
Misery, oh misery The BBC has real issues in their newsroom!
Open up all airports and resumed business. That's what we need. Can't have every industry asking for bailout. We need tourist, businessman and foreign students for our universities.
They have had support. The owners are the ones who have screwed the staff. Sacked them all and took the money off shore. Now they'll create more zero hours so they can pay £1 per hour and get away with it. The zero hour loophole of no living wage.
we on our way folks just pls to the moody brigade a 😊 don’t cost nothing & right now that all there is 💭 👀🤔🤷♂️😷
Capitalism eh, it's just begging bowls out every 10 years. Be it bankers, COVID-19. Pathetic.
They have said they may have to close some of their city hotels. Great time for the government to buy them and have them converted into 2 or 3 bedroom apartments. Solves some of the housing issues. No need for green belt land. Meeting on teams so less need for hotel stays. Sorted
As someone who has working in hotels for 30 years it is not the industry that needs the support but the workers. Nearly all hotels have sacked their staff over the past week and it is getting uglier. Owners of the hotels will just bank any money they are given by the guv
They need to be attended to as tvey call dpr it
