The count is used to allocate seats in the US House of Representatives for the next decade, as well as state and local legislatures. The decennial Census count is also one of the core tools public and private researchers alike use to understand America's demographic makeup.
Because the self-response deadline for the decennial count is just a few months away in October, we decided to look at response rates at the city level. . Rates can be found at the state-, city-, and county-level, among other geographic divisions. We focused on cities with a population of at least 100,000 that had the lowest overall self-response rates as of July 13. All the cities on our list had self-response rates well below the national rate of 62.
