Tourism leaders in the Gold Coast have warned a lack of certainty over Queensland’s roadmap to reopening borders could severely affect business over the summer break.

“We’d like to see visitors from the south as soon as the national roadmap says we should be, but the problem we’ve got is that we’ve got nothing firm in that space and, as a result of that, people are concerned that they aren’t going to see the border reopen at that point,” Greater Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce’s President Hilary Jacobs told Sky News Australia.

“We’re getting mixed messages from the premier and from the chief health officer along the lines of, ‘well, maybe when we get to 80 per cent across the state, we’d like to see 80 per cent in the regions as well so we want to see more even across the state’. “Whilst there is no clear direction of what is happening, nobody’s going to understand whether or not they can book or not.

“This is actually the key time for booking for Christmas now, this week, next week, straight after the school holidays is when people plan what they’re doing for Christmas.”

National’s holding Australia back ClimateAction auspol It doesn't matter what business and voters think. It's not a popularity contest for goodness sake. For me it’s not a matter of believing. The planet is warming. But unless China India and the US do something then we are pissing in the wind. Britain uses Nuclear and we are not adult enough to even have the discussion. Climate Auspol
