By 1986, the business had four stores. At that time, Stirling and her family had just moved back from London to Lake Forest. She was pregnant with her third daughter.Stirling discovered that her father, Volney Foster, was contemplating closing his mother’s business. She had some experience with fashion having worked in London at a company that imported and exported English and American clothes back and forth between the two countries.
Compared to the original store created by her grandmother, Stirling said, “We’re more sophisticated. We’re faster on our feet. We’re more focused. We’re there to do business, and have fun while we’re doing it.”
