With the number of Holocaust survivors declining with every passing year, I cannot begin to emphasize how special it was for Glauben to share his story and charge us to remember the horrors of the Holocaust in order to prevent another such event from occurring. The death and destruction throughout Ukraine prove that the territorial ambitions of an autocrat like Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot be stymied with sanctions, regardless of severity. Oil and gas, Russia’s economic lifeblood, are global commodities. Absent a worldwide embargo, an unrealistic expectation, Putin’s soldiers won’t miss a paycheck.
