Permits held by Chance Oil and Gas in Eagle Plains area should have been allowed to expire, chiefs say.

Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Chief Dana Tizya-Tramm poses for a photo in front of the Porcupine River in Old Crow on July 22.

"We don't see the extension of these permits aligned with the prospects of a carbon-neutral future," Vuntut Gwitchin Chief Dana Tizya-Tramm said in an interview. The chiefs's statement, meanwhile, says that "the health of the environment of northern Yukon is paramount and must be considered by all levels of government in making decisions regarding further oil and gas exploration in the region, including whether to extend expiring exploration permits."

A exploratory well in the Eagle Plains area of Yukon drilled by Northern Cross, now Chance Oil and Gas Limited. The chiefs of three northern Yukon First Nations say Chance's permits should not have been extended. While Streicker said he appreciated their belief that the permits should have been allowed to expire, he explained that he also had to balance other obligations when considering Chance's application for extensions.

"When you start withdrawing these permits the risk to whether companies work in good faith is always put at a bit of risk, so I think we're careful about tools we use to try and put pressure on companies," he said. "We try to work with them constructively to get to that remediation."

Leave the damn oil in the ground! We are in a climate EMERGENCY!

'we don't feel like the laws apply to us, because of our race'

Sounds like the natives want more money

TrudeauHasGotToGo

No, they should not.

The indians don't get to decide how laws work. The hypocrisy of the green and ideologues is going to get people killed. The Indians get $$ so don't care how much gas costs but if you have to work you do so supply is important until a viable alternative exists.

These guys are a lot smarter than Poilievre's New Reform Party

Chiefy thinks he owns Canada? I thinks if natives are going to start exerting dominion over us, it's time for payback of 150+ years of social welfare. They can just give us Canada and we'll call it even. Nobody is exerting sovereignty over Canada except Canadians.

GATEKEEPER!!!!! /sarcasm Stories like this are why Skippy wants to 'ax the no more pipelines act' (42-1 C-69). So they can ram through environmentally damaging projects against their consent/knowledge.

I personally believe the quackscenes are causing myocarditis, pericarditis, seizures, paralysis, miscarriages, stillbirths, a wide range of other symptoms, and even death. I believe those who have taken the quackscenes shed and spread to others.

It is my opinion that those responsible for the quackscenes, quackscene passports, and other mandates should be arrested and tried for manslaughter and maybe even murder. Enough time has passed where it is now undeniable.
