Apartment project off US 1 gets nod from SJC planning board

An apartment project in St. Johns County is moving closer to reality after a recent recommendation by the Planning and Zoning Agency.

Just last month, a project from MIVO Development Group that would have put 204 multifamily units on about 15.7 acres of landWhile residents in the area are still worried about traffic and flooding, the Bella Terra project does not directly access Watson Road. That's different from the MIVO proposal, which was right at the intersection.

It must still be worked out with the county how impact fee credits might be used for the Watson Road improvements. However, the project off Agricultural Center Drive is near the Sheriff's Office training facility and communications center. Matt Cline, general counsel for the Sheriff's Office, spoke out in opposition to the proposal at the planning meeting.
