, who had served as director of aviation since 2011. Carreno previously served as assistant director of operations for the aviation department after joining the city in December 2021.
Carreno has more than 19 years of aviation experience in various roles at airports and as an airline. Prior to joining Dallas, he served as vice president for the Allegheny County Airport Authority in Pennsylvania where he oversaw operations, field maintenance and security departments at Pittsburgh International Airport. He also previously led Stockton Metropolitan Airport in California and was the operations manager at Denton Enterprise Airport.
“Overseeing the Dallas airport system’s security, airside ops and landside ops divisions has allowed me to experience firsthand our organization’s commitment and drive to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for our customers and partners,” Carreno said in a statement."I could not be more excited for the opportunity to help lead the Department of Aviation through this period of transition.
During Duebner’s tenure, Love Field grew to become the busiest medium-hub airport in the U.S. So far this year, the airport has served more than 11.6 million passengers through the end of September, including 5.8 million boardings. The airport is behind 2019’s pace but remains ahead of 2021 as it continues its Covid recovery. The airport had its busiest year in 2019, when it served more than 16.7 million total passengers.
Love Field currently serves 74 cities and is scheduled to have more than 132,000 flights take off this year, according to Cirium.
